Bible Basics 101

Bible Basics 101

God is. He created all things. He created all things as good. How do I know this? The first chapter of the Bible tells me. God created the heaven and the earth (Genesis 1:1). And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good (Genesis 1:31).

God is a trinity. God and the Spirit of God are identified in the opening of Genesis. That God is one God is declared clearly in the Scriptures. It is one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith and uncircumcision through faith (Romans 3:30). As Isaiah has recorded, “I am the Lord, and there is none else, there is no God beside me” (Isaiah 45:5). Yet, this one God declares, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness” (Genesis 1:26).

There is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Jesus Christ, who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time (1 Timothy 2:5-6). Without this man, the man Christ Jesus, was not anything made that was made (John 1:3). He is the incarnate Word, which was in the beginning. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God (John 1:1-2).

The Word was made flesh and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth (John 1:14). Jesus is the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world (John 1:29). He is the image of the invisible God…all things were created by him, and for him: he is before all things, and by him all things consist (Colossians 1:15-17).

God gave his only begotten Son to die for us, to shed his blood for our redemption (John 3:16). The Son reveals God as the Father, the Father that sent him (John 8:16) and the Father of all who come to him by faith in Christ Jesus (Galatians 3:26).

There is only one God, manifested in three persons, each distinct, yet one. Jesus declared of himself and of the Father that they are one (John 10:30). The Apostle Paul writes concerning the Church, “There is one body and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ (Ephesians 4:4-7).

The Lord Jesus said it in his command to his disciples: “Go ye therefore (because all power is given unto Christ in heaven and in earth) and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost” (Matthew 28:19). That God, who is one God, the one true and living God, is declares of Christ to be Three in One: the Father who gave us the Son that we might be saved through receiving the witness of the Holy Ghost, the Spirit of God, who is also the Spirit of Christ (Romans 8:9-17).
